BBQ is good for us!
This is a blog about barbecue (barbeque, BBQ) in the San Francisco Bay Area — an unlikely venue, perhaps — and beyond. We are East Coast transplants looking for a meat fix. Have something to say about BBQ? Leave a comment!

We just tried Doug’s BBQ in Half Moon Bay. It was an overall disappointing experience. Lots of meat, but not enough sauce. When I went up to ask for more sauce, I got the teeniest little paper cup with a dot more. The guy who runs the place is not really in business to run a restaurant, it’s a “business” – so everything you have to ask for is met with a joking “no” at first. Want more sauce “got five bucks?” – want the cold air stopped by closing the front door “no!” – it’s all a haha joke but it’s tired and reflects a lack of real focus on running a great dining establishment.
I don’t know from region or authentic, so I can only comment that it was pretty good. Coleslaw was wider strips (not shredded) of cabbage with a thin and light sauce – this was a neat variation.
Great blog! I stumbled across it from a link in Cookshack’s newsletter from today. I’m writing because I’m also a BBQ nut and am in Berkeley. A UC grad and in the IT business to boot. I’m not a nut of the local BBQ restaurants, although I found the new Brick’s Pig House to be interesting. I do all my own Q’ing and am shooting for championship BBQ quality and have a decent backyard setup. LEt me know if you guys may want a local BBQ bud with similar interests to do things with from time to time. Anthony
